El Malpais National Monument

El Malpais National Monument protects a wild and diverse landscape molded by volcanic activity as recently as 2,500 years ago. Go on a hike or take a scenic drive to explore diverse geologic features such as sandstone bluffs, lava flows, cinder cone volcanoes, and lava tube caves. Please check the park website, call ahead, or stop by the visitor center for information about safety, closures, and permit requirements before you visit.
